Meripilus giganteus fruiting here in the grass.

 

No common host in the immediate vacinity, unless you possibly count the London Plane ( as Lonsdale suggests) at left of picture.

 

Certainly no Beech or Oak in this part if the park.

 

No notable old stump/pit either.

Although the Sorbus is possibly on the site of an old tree, but can't get anybody to confirm this.

 

 

Mmmmm?

Is the meripilus not incontact with the roots of the tree in the corner of pic 2?

It appears to be within the rhizosphere.

 

 

 

Not know of Merip on Lime John, could be wrong though.
