i've been contracting away in austria for some time now, and will be moving to germany soon to do the same. try and juggle the two. but i keep getting different answers about tax. the guys in ireland say i pay it in the country i'm working in, the guys in austria say because it's a short contract i pay it in ireland. and also if i'm out of the country for 6 months i don't pay tax at all. so what? di keep books, if so who do i show them to. you can't declare to every country you work in, that would get very complicated.

hmmm paying combined tree services definetly worth a thought though. the information you sent me andy was useful and interesting, the moral of the story was go see a professional. plus maybe the rules are slightly different in ireland

Oops I didnt see you were from Ireland, but at least it gives you an idea. Not sure, but if you pay the money back into your regular bank account, would this be then taxable in your home country?? Definitely need an accountant to advise the best route.

cheers andy my query exactly, i've been talking to the accountant for the old firm i used to work for. but i just don't think he's right. i'd say irish laws are pretty similiar to england. seems a very grey area. might go see an accountant who i actually have to pay for advice.
