Trango Cinch and 10mm OP

spliced a nice new lanyard on to my captive eye karabinar over the weekend with 10mm OP. was going to use with my Cinch. Tried it out very briefly . grips instantly but the moment you move the lever.....hells teeth does it let you go.

 

i know that this is a fairly common setup...anyone else use it? interested to hear opinions.

You can also just move the body of the cinch for a less dramatic result.

Cinch is designed for ropes conforming to EN 892, climbing & mountaineering rope basically. You are pairing it with an incompatible rope, something to bear in mind when bringing mountaineering gear into the arb world.

Cinch is tested with ropes conforming to EN 892, not arb ropes. The fact that it isn't tested doesn't mean it won't work, just that it isn't tested.

 

If it wasn't for bringing mountaineering, sailing, and parachuting gear into arb work we would all still be using 3 strand manilla and tieing our own harnesses out of rope.

I agree that the cinch works, and works well for many people, and I also agree that innovative ideas have come into our world from many different spheres.

 

However I feel that we have now innovated our own solutions for lanyard adjustment within the industry. , and perhaps it is time to move onto something that is tested for our industry.

Testing, testing, testing.....hmmm...that being said I used a cinch for a bit and it works, there is some getting used to it...however there are better setups IMHO...I use a ISC wrench pulley now with a 20" handspliced eye and eye in a VT...works a charm...smooth as silk...

cheers all. All interesting points of view. ive been using the cinch since it hit the scene but never with OP before. the mammut supersafe i had before was 10mm but am guessing on ly when elongated as it sure feels thicker than that when not stretched. just have to go easy and find the biting point on firat few climbs i suppose. lovely compact setup it is.
