burning eyes

Hello, this is my first post on here but I have gathered so much information from the forum it's an excellent source of information.

When I'm carving owls or similar I use black marbles for the eyes if the scale is right.

I have seen some carvers using a die grinder with something in the Chuck that appears to burn the shape of the eye into the carving.

 

I apologise if this is a silly question, but can anyone tell me how it's done or with what fitted to the die grinder.

Sean, I should of had them off you sooner, they are an excellent item for the die grinder and have been used for the feather detail as well as eyes. You made me the 12mm and 25 mm which are used for my owls and birds generally, you can get different effects on the eyes dependent on how much pressure you apply when burning them in.

I would recommend these for anyone who wants to replace the use of marbles for eyes .

I will be buying some more of different diameter very soon.
