Q ceris x rubra.

Does anyone on arbtalk know if there is a q.ceris x q. rubra? I have found a tree which looks like a ceris but the trunk looks like a rubra. Someone told me yesterday they thought it was a cross:001_smile:

Could be David, it wouldn't surpise me. The general rule of thumb though is that Oaks within the same subgenera section hybridise in the wild but real effort has to be put in to cross oaks from different sections.

Today i cut off a twig of a turkey oak and then the above tree and i have just looked at the turkey oak leaf on wikipedia. I think now it could be a hybrid with robur as most of the leaves where rounded lobes five on each side of the leaf. Interesting stuff:001_smile:

Picture 1 and picture 2 are the hybrid. Picture 3 is a true cerris.
