Oak Polypore?

Was looking at a 7.8mtr girth Ancient Oakthe other day and this bracket was laying on the floor inside the hollow stem.

 

Pretty sure it's the Oak Polypore.?? The ones i have seen before have fruited alot earlier in the year however.

 

Any thoughts David, Anthony, others?

 

Also what is the procedure for recording Red Data List species?

For a start they are one of only four fungal species protected by law and it is an offence to look at one let alone actually touch one !

 

I have no option but to grass on ya and inform the relevant authorities.

I've been caught out with oak polypore before, thinking I had found it at a new site only for it to be confirmed at Kew as Laetiporus

 

Yours (although heavily dessicated) looks to be a decent shout for Op but I would send it off for confirmation.

 

What's the site?

Any other records for it there?

the flesh is discoloured (due to air contact) and would have been lighter

You had me going then....nearly packed my bags and done one.

 

Its a private tree on a private site.

 

The flesh was akin to marshmallow....not at all chickeny......wiull get a bit sent off to Kew.
