There was a chap in France (forget the name), was running a 3 heap system to provide heating/hot water. Coil of pipe buried in the pile used to extract passive heat. 3 piles in a barn, 1 active / in use, one being built with a coil in it ready to change over and 1 expended pile ready to be heaved out of the shed. Now there's a thought if you were a chip producer, whilst the chip is laid up waiting collection you could be heating the house / green house / work shop etc??

Dont know if the same guy but he was called Jean Pain. Not only heated his house with the wood chip pile but captured sufficient gas to use for cooking and run his 2CV car on gas. Videos are on youtube if you google Jean Pain. Very clever man but died young from suspected illness caused by fungal spores on the woodchip.

Bang on John! Couldn't remember the name but as soon as you said it.

He's died from fungal spore??? That's bloody harsh! Puts my NPower bill into a more acceptable perspective.

I'm not suggesting that quote applied to JP, but I like to read it occasionally just to remind myself.
