Once did the same took the exhaust muffler off and removed it that way

That seems the best way of removing it without stripping it down, You will need to rotate the crank so the piston drops below the exhaust port and the rope can be pulled out with tweezers. Once removed, check that all the rope is out and spin the saw to make sure there is no restriction.

I cannae see it through the exhaust port, so I'm stripping it down.

 

Any advice getting the engine away fro the rest of the body? The fly wheel oviously needs to come off, but is proving solid.

Last few flywheels I have removed by undoing the nut and leaving it flush with the end of the crank holding saw by flywheel and letting a heavy ratchet or bar slide through my fingers to knock it, usually comes loose within one or two knocks

Sorry, when i said fly wheel, I mean the 3 part wheel that expands within the brake spring.

The clutch, it has a reverse thread in it, so undo it the opposite way to normal once you have locked the piston with starter cord or similar
