Once did the same took the exhaust muffler off and removed it that way

 

That seems the best way of removing it without stripping it down, You will need to rotate the crank so the piston drops below the exhaust port and the rope can be pulled out with tweezers. Once removed, check that all the rope is out and spin the saw to make sure there is no restriction.
