I got rather attached to this little saw its light and always worked its nuts off for me and for a £75'er off ebay i've had just over a year out of it and still runs well etc

would i be wrong to fit an aftermarket ring set or go for OE ring set or go for a aftermarket greece piston kit i;e golf etc . So as and when required i have the bits in stock to repair my saw when it starts to get a bit tired etc i can just strip n replace parts in stock as required in the future

If the cylinder plating is OK, just fit a new Meteor piston, they are of good quality and have done many saws with them without issue. It will restore the power, compression and stop any piston slap that these 026/024s can have after many hours use!

If the plating on the cylinder bore is worn then it just depends on what sort of money you want to spend!

Well i took the plunge and went for a piston kit to put in stock for future repairs to my old stihl this is the one i went for Piston fit STIHL 024 AV, 024 S, 024 SW, 024 WB, 024 SWVH, MS 240 (42mm) | eBay it carries a two year warranty not that i think i will need it but can anyone say how long does a saw last engine hrs wise or is it do a compression test and then decide it wants piston/ring kit etc ????

It generally comes down to replacing the piston when the compression is poor!
