Sorry it is not a fracture cut but this bough fell 2 years ago on a veteran turkey oak i cut it back only to this point as the pipistrelle bats like small cracks like this but look at the new growth. This must be a good way, good for habitat and good for the tree?:001_smile: But as Dr lonsdale said it is better to take these large boughs back slowly.

Obviously I'm a fan of stubs/fractures vs target prunes, in these particular situations.

But I would like to witness more of it to be honest, I really think the majority of practioners can be a bit blinkered out of college and possibly lack the balls to challenge the perceived wisdom of authors who may rest on their laurels. :sneaky2:

 

The most forward thinking proposal in years was the attempt to acknowledge what is really going on out there, with the nod in the 2008 BS 3998 Draft..............
