The grief goes on!

Took carb off, solenoid works and tube got a blow through. Valves appear to go up and down in the right sequence. Spark plug was wet and had a decent enough spark.

Is there a timing belt? How is the camshaft driven? It is almost as if the timing was out!

Any clues? The grass takes a lot of cutting with a walk behind!

If its an I/C engine it will be an old side valve, so no cambelt. The valves are driven by the camshaft and followers.

I reckon you have got a tight valve, so check the clearances in the first instance.

If that is not the problem have a look at the valves after taking the head off.

Valves seem to go up and down the same amount and the valve springs etc seem to be in order.

It smells like petrol and isnt oily like diesel.

if it was a safety switch, there wouldn't be a spark.

Fuel filter cleaned, hoses checked. Choke works.

Occasional clunck from solenoid under tank and engine will not turn or turns slowly for maybe one cycle (as if battery weak or bad earth).
