Husky 365 special. Why the name 'special'?

on the original 365 i think the addition of a side chain tensioner made it 'special'.

 

I undestand that was the main change as well, even though some other changes happened more or less at close to the same time.

In the states, the 365 special has internal transfers, similarly to the 372.

 

I believe that was an EPA "thing", that wasn't directly related to the "Special" designation.

On the special, yes. Not the earlier version.

 

I don't believe it is that "clean" as a cutoff, only some very early 365s (if any) would have an intake that isn't compatible with the 372xp top end.

I believe none of the specials have ever had the oval intake just the earlier "original 365" Also they had zama carbs whereas the special had walbro altho a few early special models had the zama.

The special using the walbro does use the same carb as the 372. As mentioned also the side tensioner and often forgotten was it also got the adjustable flow oil pump.
