Thanks for all the pointers guys. I've heard of the others you mentioned but to be honest don't really know much about them. Seem to remember the izettle one you can't access the funds for several days, (might be misremembering though – my age I'm told!) which I guess isn't the end of the world, but always make me a bit twitchy. After all it's my money and I'd like to be able to transfer it when I like. Bit like the old cheques clearing period which in this day and age seems a right royal con.

I've a Streamline terminal through the phone line. I'm fairly certain that Streamline are the largest card payments provider in the UK and it's still on average three days from me swiping the card in the shop till the money appears in my account.

At the end of the day it's just like anything and everything financially related, be prepared to be shafted by a huge company who you will grow to detest but can't actually do anything about!

Do you have hands on experience of the paypal reader? Would be interested to hear from someone who has. Looks fairly straight forward to use but wondered what their down sides are?

Did about £20k a month with paypal, but through website

Website was a sod to set up ( or so techies told me) but once set up worked great

Never used their card reader but would expect it to work fine,

Charges are very high, but if you need to make a sale you grit our teeth

Back office was fine, and you can do payments in set amounts per month ok

If you split payments over say six months it works out number of days and takes them at equal periods , so if your execting pyment every 25th of the month you might actually get it on 27th

Very fast clearance ino your bank, like twenty minutes.....

You can set it up to clear into bank automatically every day

I liked it

Closed this company over twelve months ago

Just seen email from paypal

Some scalley has claimed he never received goods ( he did) and they are proposing to refund him £350

They made a habit of this and some people have learned how to get their money back for stuff they have received ......

It was a constant ongoing probem with credit cards ........and is probably getting worse
