Hi all , got to re pollard a 60ft pop in the morn . Not sure how it's going to go as it was pollarded to 35ft a very long time ago and can't see the condition of the trunk. The re growth is huge and will require me spiking and lowering/speed lining . Advise and encouragement please. .

Ideally use a mewp, if you can't get one in, spike up to a point where you feel comfortable before they start wobbling round too much and get a big ratchet strap round a few of the stems, will make it a bit more stable to work from. That's how I did my last one, although I have never seen anyone else do it that way. Also don't lower down from the stem your anchored on if you can avoid it as a big shock load could snap out the stem.

As above, spike it but inspect the pollard knuckle / head when you get to it to ensure its stable enough. This is a lombardy we did last year, one of three. Just think about what you are doing, but it certainly sorts the men from the boys... Take your time!... J
