Really impressed with the home made jig. My mind tends to go blank when thinking about making jigs.

 

 

Thanks for the praise but it isn't my idea. I made the jig (and a shorter one) about 14 years ago and it's been used occasionally over the years. There are lots of examples of this technique using a router if you Google 'Flattening wide boards with a router'. Also examples of using a hand held power planer.
