L200 timing belt

Morning guys, yesterday my l200 timing belt tensioner broke which snapped timing belt. It's a 55 plate, haven't opened her up yet, has anyone else had this happen and how bad was the damage. I was doing about 15 mph in 2nd and stopped immediately. Do the valves normally bend on this engine or is it just the rocker arms that break. ? It's a 4d56 k74 engine. Cheers bill.

It's quite a common fault if you go on the l200 forum the guys on there will be able to help. Think you will find its a costly repair/replacement engine. Trouble with the k74 is it originated from a 70's petrol engine and is a pile if crap. I have one but luckily for me it's not been to bad apart from the constant rocker gasket leaks, turbo pressure issues etc etc and the serious lack of power.

Mate done this twice now, once for a timing belt and once for a balance belt which wrapped its self in spite around the timing belt !!!.

Normally a couple of rockers bent/snapped if your lucky, Gates belt kit approx £100 which includes the tensioner's Milners 4x4 in Darley Dale for the rest gaskets, rockers etc bottom pulley (cow to get off) I had to fix a socket and extension bar jammed into the chassis and ( fuel disconnected a must) blip the ignition key DO NOT hold it on for more than 1/2 a second just a blip to crack the threads and make sure the extension bar is well secured

I think there is a link on here somewhere to a online workshop Manuel

not a particularly difficult job if you take your time

All the best

Roger

never understood why you never see engine conversions for these and navaras (which can be had by the dozen with blown engines :sneaky2:) Toyotas yes land rovers yes but why no mitzis or nissans with ford/Daihatsu/rover v8 or perkins/cummins? one with a 300tdi would make my day  it must be possible?
