cambium saver for an old un!

Hi all,

Since belonging to Arbtalk and reading alot of posts on climbing I have updated my equipment to try and keep current as an old set in his ways climber can.....ie 18 years climbing prussik and blakes

1 year hitch climber

2 weeks ziz-zag

 

My question is with this new style rope ie 11.7mm should I use a cambium saver to prevent wear on my rope.

If so what the best and best set-up.

 

p.s. Before the flak starts when I was taught to climb they never existed.

Cambium saver on any size rope, not just for rope wear but reduced friction makes the work easier.

 

A 2 ring version is 100% better than natural crotch, and a pulley version is about 10% better than the 2 ring.

 

Get a reasonably long one, around 90cm as this will give you more options when choosing an anchor point.

 

Plastic ball or overhand knot to retrieve.

Wouldn't bother with the pulley tbh, 2 ring is fine, get an adjustable if you feel its worth the extra.

I use an ART Ropeguide actually, but they are £165 as opposed to £35 for one of these.

I have a Sirius multi saver. Adjustable 2 rings. Got the short one as it's always a top anchor point so don't need much length. Being able to get the rings up tight is very handy.

Hi Rob....whats the wear factor like for the sirus opposed to a cambium saver,

and what's the red bobble thing for is that a retrieve ball?

I think if you got the art ropeguide you won't regret paying the extra money worth every penny it will save a lot of energy and great for choking around a stem.
