Never buy a chipper without having a go first. You could be buying a bag of nails.

Good point...thanks

i am just starting out so i cannot afford allot etc

other thing is i dont know what the pros and cons are of having a chipper i have always managed by chucking all the trees i have cut down on my tipper and then tipping the brash and keeping logs for my fire and payin about £35 to tipp..

What do you lot do with chips as i was told you cannot put them on the garden when fresh as they do more harm than good?

can ayone recomend a cheap start up chipper second hand like which can be towed?

At the risk of offending Pete, I would not touch an old greenmech with a long barge pole. The older models had a lot of quality issues...

Timberdog, work out your own math. If you are paying £35 a day to tip off your brash, thats £175 a week towards a chipper... plus all the time you would save not slashing up brash in your tipper...

I would say that £5k is what you have to pay to get a reasonably decent chipper.

Cons have to tow extra weight costs money to run expensive to repair noisy. Makes a mess chips can blow out onto the street. Can get niked also need security some where to store etc.

Pros looks much more professional get more on the truck saves alot of time and fooking about. pennys to run for what it does. cheaper to tip sometimes.

All in all a must have for any decent tree company. But we all started without one well us with no spoon attached to our ass.

Good luck i would get a timberwolf cos i recently did. Based on good value for money compared to others and a have used many timbers before and they are great machienes.
