Seizing Husky 357xpg

Evening all! Long time no speak!

 

Finally got a bit of time to sort some bits out for friends and family this week, Got to my saw, think its a 2004~ 357xpg. I made the mistake of "fueling" up with chain oil before i laid it up in November. Promptly stopped using the saw and took the carb off, left it to rinse through in petrol after being through an ultrasonic cleaner. I reassembled the saw but never got round to using it until now.

 

Soo...

 

Bit of a pig to start, but figured that was normal after being parked up for a while, finally got it going, idled for a minute or so then gave it a couple of goes up to full revs and back down again... Then seized, it was very hot (though I'm not sure if its too hot, as I've never touched or had the top cover off a running/hot saw!)

 

It did un-seize with a spanner on the flywheel nut, it now turns freely as normal, still has compression.

 

any thoughts on what Ive broken, missed etc?

 

yes I'm positive that Ive used 2stroke petrol!

Sounds a bit strange - I would pull the muffler off and inspect the exhaust side of the piston to make sure it hasn't nipped up - if the saw has an air leak or the carb is set too lean it may be over heating.

 

Other than that - make sure there isn't excessive wood chip around the clutch or flywheel that may be binding.

 

Lightly seized saws can nip up and then gain enough compression to run again as long as the ring is free but will ultimately fail if used again.

Cheers, I did have the carb side off as i say, But Ive not had a look at the exhaust side of things yet.

 

Bloody annoying as ive a week off work (where Ive a stihl ms460 i think!) and ive got a large hawthorne thats partially over, a small woodland to thin, a laurel to severely prune and firewood duties!
