You can get a 12v "on demand" pump for £50. That would fill the cistern and turn itself off.

Just to depress you further, you can get time delay switches for £1 off ebay.

 

Other than that, well done. I am planning a rainwater harvesting system at the moment, all very interesting stuff.

Just re-read your post, certainly not depressed, far from it, life here is anything but.

 

Just bought 10 litres of very drinkable vin rouge for about £15.00 - no minimum pricing nonsense here!

 

& please post the links to the automatic pump you have found, there may be others who want to build their own mini waterworks for toilet flushing, we have already saved about 3 Euros worth of Vendee Eau.
