Tree DNA

Just had a customer contact me, about a willow they had removed a while ago, as it was causing problems to the neighbouring house. A new insurance company is involved and suggesting that it may still be the problem. I am sure I have heard that you can have trees dna tested to trace which trees roots are causing damage, is this right? if so who does this? we are in kent.

Cheers Mike

All you can hope to do is to get a sample of the offending roots and get it tested to find out the species. It won't tell you which individual tree is guilty unless there's only one of that species in the area.

Yu don't need to use someone nearby to test it, the sample can be sent to them. An internet search will get you a few names.

I expect the real difficulty is matching the roots to the problem. Just because you fidn willow roots near the house doesn't mean they are the problem.

You are entering a difficult area of expertise, with maybe thousands of £s at stake.
