Qualification

Hi folks, Just a question. As you all know, I have been ill recently & it now looks as if I won't be able to go into a full time job in this industry.

 

However, I do still have my chainsaw & safety gear, so I intend to take the occasional user ticket just to ensure I know what I'm doing. What would that qualify me to do legal-wise? What, if anything, could I charge for? Or can I just limb & buck fallen trees & take the timber as payment? My wife turns green wood, so that would be the reason for the last idea.

nptc, basic chainsaw and maintenance, and you will need insurance mate. even if you do it for nothing, you might do some small damage and before you know it, the guy in the pub that wanted a freeby is now claiming you wrecked his favourite slab and is going to sue you. be carefull with that one. start off working for nothing then you always will.

ay up shrekie lad, thanks for that mate. I do valet cars for people & I do charge for my time. One of my bosses says "You charge how much?" To which I say, " You want my spare time? you pay for it." All the owners have gone away happy up to now & I do get repeat customers. I would get public liability insurance if taking up any kind of tree work. I see what you're saying about working for nowt, It's also usually the bloke getting the 'freebie' who'll make the biggest stink if it goes wrong.

Totally agree with stevie there mate. Get some basic insurance to cover yourself, dont work for nowt- if you dont do a job for nowt they will have it done by someone else and pay, so you may as well have the money- and get stuck in.

Thanks mate, As I say, I am limited in my choices now as there is still a problem with my knees & hips. Arthritic type of pain, & I do a lot of walking at work, so when I'm finished I am ready for home. Even though I like my current job, I can't see me being able to do it forever. I have a couple of other options in the pipeline too but they are not for here.

 

I have learned a lot from this site & you tube & the like. I do want to do chainsaw carving & have started on something which I will put on here if it turns out right. If not, none of you will ever see it.
