Best knot?

Being a fisherman, I know shed loads of knots, but mostly they are great for mono line to hooks etc... There are obviously tons of knots out there, but with rope, grip, slip, and workability work completely different than my knot experience with mono.

I have seen knots used for tying small loops in prusiks, lanyards etc, but cant work out which is best, nor whick I'm even looking at.

 

So, what are good knots for creating small loops at the end of the ropes for karibina's etc??? or should I just stick to pre spliced loops?
