Coppicing land.

I am 17 years old and have always been interested in forestry and woodland management. I am looking for some woodland to coppice in west sussex. I would like to coppice the wood with hand tools such as saws and billhook.

 

Does anyone know of any woodland that I could do this in West Sussex and how much should I have to pay?

You will struggle to find someone take you seriously at your age Liam, not being funny at all just honest but I can put you in touch with people who might be able to help if you let me know what area you are looking at. You may be able to do a bit of work with/for them and that might be a way in?

as other post go with a coppicer to learn the craft. there s the surrey and sussex hedgelaying group if you contact them there may be a coppicer who is willing for you to help out. but do not expect to get paid as such as its slow in some of the coppicing. so some finding it a struggle to make ends meet. you may then see a door open when you get older. one of the older coppicers may let you take over when they retire. as for price anything from nout for a neglected wood to £300 a acre for prime sites.
