Eye burning bit

This was made out of an old round head allen bolt, from an old swing seat. The head of the bolt is 16mm wide, and the drill bit was 13mm. Drill out the head of the allen bolt to the required depth. This could be done to a normal bolt but you would need to round of the outside first, then centre punch for the drill. This works on friction to burn the eye, I use a household drill.

I tried these out on a friends metal lathe a few days ago. Just using some metal rods. They fit well into a powerful drill.

Like you've said, friction is the key.

 

Im hoping to make a few larger eye pieces and the bolt idea is great and quick.
