new 550 xpg

Evening guys,

 

Last time i checked the boards i think was a year or more ago. Since then i've been working for G&T and loving it. Bought my first saw today, the 550 xpg. Used to Sthil but heard good reviews and liked the one i used on my felling course.

 

Just fitted the bar, seated the chain tensioner, tightened the nuts and the engaged the chain brake and now it wont come off.

 

Did i do something wrong?

Lol, also side bolts are to be hand tight no need to really pull on them bud

nope, not it. Worried about taking the clutch cover off again without disengaging the chain brake. Manual says no, is this ok?

loosened everything off, wow, still very stiff to disengage. Everything's a bit wierd, only used sthil. Thanks Dan. Hope i get used to it's foibles.

The tensioner has a conical pin. If you adjust the chain tension and then tighten the nuts whilst they were still fairly loose, it forces the fatter part of the pin in more which tightens the chain more.

 

So you need to only have the bar nuts just loose enough to be able to move the bar enough to adjust it.

ok, seems to be working much better now. the chain brake seems kinda sensitive. It's jumping back to engage now. Is there something not right again?

Wow, i got it. likey lots, you really jam your hand in there behind the brake. And i have to engage it with my whole hand, not just above the lever
