Ash issue

hi,

Looks as if the leaves are being eaten. The canopy, particularly on the northern side, is about 65% of normal leaf cover. have seen this once before, on both occasions on mature ash. the last time i saw it, about six years ago, the tree had no leaf with in 18 months and subsequently had to be removed.

Does any one have any info or experience of this? apologies for poor picture, taken from the ground.

Can't tell from those pictures, everrything's a silhouette. Would need to more too about the environment, is it a roadside tree with lots of hard surfaces?

Before Chalara became known as ash dieback disease, ash dieback was a recognised syndrome whereby ash trees would basically die back without any specific disease but due instead to environmental factors.

Or it is possible as you say that it is being eaten by some pest or other. But it shouldn't be enough to kill the tree.
