357xp Excessive Oiling

Unlike most of the recent saw posts on here my 357xp (which is running well otherwise) is feeding too much oil on to the guide bar. It empties the oil tank in the time it use half a tank of fuel, you can see the oil flying off the end of bar in a heavy spray - it also covers the exhaust making it smoke:thumbdown:.

 

I haven't started to look at it yet, but suspect a knackered seal or pipe as if the pump was gone it most likely get no oil. Has anyone else had a similar problem?

is the oil pump adjustable on that model?? perhaps opened up too far?? filter come off end of pick up pipe and its drawing excessive amounts? split pick up pipe??

i have a couple of scrappers if you need bits

have run loads of 357,s and never had that problemo

I have taken the clutch and plate off to inspect and clean the pump and hoses etc, all look to be ok - i used light gear oil to see if there was any leaks with the pump removed and it looked ok. Although it really needed a clean. I have put i back together with some light gear oil still in the tank and ran it again. Hard to tell if it is fixed or not as the gear oil is so thin - only time will tell but it certainly seemed better...

 

But i will check the pick up pipe as well as i haven't checked that.

 

Hoping that it was only some dirt that had lifted the seal inboard of the pump .
