Hello David, there are no other Plane tree in the immediate area, in fact I don't think there are any more on the estate. it is sat next to a horse-chestnut.

Just Googled what Plane Anthracnose is and it looks like this tree has these symptoms.

is there anything I can do, feed the roots?

Thanks

wouldn't rule out Ceratocystis, but I understand that the disease is usually transferred via root grafts on lines of planes (like they are on the Canal du Midi) or by infected mechanical damage like chainsaws, diggers etc....)

Has this tree had anyone cutting it over the last few years?

If it is Anthracnose, then it may not be anything too serious to worry about as trees generally recover.

We have a number of big Planes where I work that regularly drop large numbers of wilted leaves which come back during the growing season or at worst the following spring.

As suggested above, consider mulching if appropriate.
