broken bones

Hi all,

Long story short, came out a second story window Feb 15th and fell about 35ft onto concrete.

I broke my right heel into 3 different pieces, left ankle shot into top of foot and splintered, my back L2 broke a corner off and L3 squashed.

Doctors said if it wasn't for my work boots (god bless Haix) i'd of lost feet completely. With the extent of damage I was told that I probably wouldn't walk again.

3 months later and a few bits of metal i'm getting about on crutches :001_smile:

Just wondered if anyone else has had similar injuries or known anyone who has that's got back into climbing??

Any feedback would be appreciated,

Mikey D

Hi Mikey, good luck with your recovery, I,v had broken thumb, broken elbow, broken wrist which had metal plates put in, prolapsed vertebrata, think thats how is spelt, shrapnel, CP knee in both but not at the same time, one would get better while the good one would get worse, lost the use of my legs for about 4 weeks, that was the lowest point ever, and lots of other things , mewled by a dog as a child, and I don't know why ,maybe its because I'm tasty, been bitten and needed stitches on 3 occasions by other dogs, had lots of other stitches too, nose broke, cheek bone and ribs, Not all at the same time but over many years of having fun, I think its the price you pay, you will soon get better and forget about this low point in your life, after all there are lots who are far worse off.

Hey, I broke my ankle at work last January ie 2012, ankles are fiddley they take ages to heal and for the swelling to go down, 17 months later I still get swelling and pain but I'm back climbing again and it's mostly healed up now so chances are good just rest it, keep it elevated to minimise the swelling and most importantly get a good private physiotherapist, mine was priceless!

Cheers guys,

Wow Jesse been in the wars. I got 6 titanium rods and several screws holding the back together they also found a broken rib from a couple of years ago quite close to puncturing lung. Think it was the classic bail out the back of chip box onto the jockey wheel.

Tally of 15 breaks on the nose, a little twisted now.

The feet are the worst part it's silly but you don't realise how much you take them for granted, I spent a bit of time in hospital with guys far worse than myself and the mindset is the hardest part to conquer.

As for physio Rossy they were supposed to provide it from day 1 needless to say none received. I'll be looking into private tomorrow. Do you get trouble with the ankle in colder weather?? Was spiking any easier??

Yep get loads of pain in the wet , damp or even any other time of year apart from summer, spent some time in Aus and with the dry heat had no pain at all, I'm now nearly 50 and the constant reliance on Brufin is now causing me to piss blood its also done my heart in, **** happens, had to give up climbing so for me now its firewood, stump grinding and fighting in clubs at xmas only. PANTS.

Ouch!! I hope things get better sounds like you've had enough troubles!!

I'm only 22 so was in my prime after six years, sucked it wasn't a tree related injury, it would of made me feel slightly better in a weird way.

I've been looking into NZ but struggling to find which visa's to apply for and all the legal jargon. Google takes me in loops.

As for the xmas scrap it's almost a tradition, 3 weeks off..... got to be sore somehow

**** me thinks, at 22 I was trying to kill the IRA, don't have any pity for me as I'V had more fun in my life than most could ever dream of, and will still have, they will have to drive a stake in me hart to keep me down. See you at the Arb show, and cheer up for FS. :thumbup1:

I hope that did not glamorize any activity's I was involved with, it was not meant to , the whole IRA thing is very complex and controversial, at that point, time in my life , I was instructed . To do what I had been told. My views now as an old man are not so regimented .

That was all before my time and how could i criticise on your views whatever my opinion, everyones entitled to their own. And besides far to complex for me to understand.

Arb show looks like it's stepping back up this year, should be a weekend full of shiny things and beer :thumbup1: hopefully i'll make the journey!!
