Once a propped tree....awesome chestnut

I hope this fantastic tree will get a few comments, its located at the site of an ex American military hospital at Nocton Lincolnshire. i'm not sure who owns it but it looks like it could do with some remedial work to protect it from further collapse, it would be a shame to lose it, local rumour has it that it was planted by Henry the eighth...who knows:sneaky2:

 

 

 

 

 

 

We did take out a VTA before walking under the tree ...was a bit of a ad hoc visit, also some massive Redwood on site..an arborists paradise

Just done a quick bit of googling [a bit late] and discovered that the tree was planted by the fifth of King Henry VIII's wives, Katherine Howard on a visit to Nocton on 13 October 1541.
