this is getting very confusing you need to know exactly what you are getting and for how much ask price per ton add on delivery and thats it no cubes ibc s etc or you will get robbed in my cautious opinion !!!!

I agree, I think the problem arises when m3 are converted into tons after splitting loading etc ... I read on here that the 'cube' measurement should be used all the way along the chain to the customer who orders 'split, dry, mixed load of firewood'.

I find that some people assume that a 'cube' of split firewood is a ton of firewood, which is not the case as we know.

We have literally taken the time to split a cube of softwood, hardwood, and a mixed load ... loaded it into trailer/truck or both and weigh it at the local weighbridge. We deal in m3's to the customer but have a ready answer for the kg's they are actually getting in real terms if they ask, explaining thats dry weight, not wet!

A chap I spoke to recently reckoned he had 2.5 m3's delivered for £70 from a firm that was a good 15-20 miles away, a 40 mile round trip which I just can't compete with which got me thinking and asking in the first place! I checked his delivered load out and needless to say it was a joke, but he was chuffed having recieved 2.5 'tons' as he assumed of logs and offcuts.

We found after splitting, roughly 30% is left out of a trailer loaded up flat. the answer for price at roadside in m3, not cord, is £35-£40 depending on your negotiating skills and how well you know the chap you are dealing with, and your attitude of course ... :thumbup1:
