Kindling from pallets

Hi all

 

Im new to here so go easy on me

 

I buy pallets for kindling and sometimes are wet

 

I understand that leaving outside will allow to dry but Im wondering if I cut and bag and then put in a metal shipping container with a heater and or dehumidafyer going will this dry bags out

 

I was told that timber may turn black

 

Is this the case and if so how do i get over this

Depends if anything else is in there, and if you shut the door, but if I were you I'd lay them out in neet piles rather than bag them up.

Once kindled if left in the wind will dry fast cover the top. How do you know which pallets have been treated. We dont use pallets because you cant tell which have been. If the EA show up all your stock goes to land fill.

That doesnt effect me as I only use it as kindling at home and when camping I have a few split pieces in the fire making kit so I know I have some dry wood to start a fire/ make a brew with.

By the time you've paid for the electricity to run the heater and the dehumidifier, your cheap kindling could work out quite expensive.

 

Why not just leave the container doors open and allow the fresh air to do the drying for you?
