Remembering an old giant

My friend Julia has a plan to memorialize a monster stump in tasmania here are some details;

A music teacher with a passion for great trees went walking in the forest, seeking to admire the greatest trees in Australia. He came seeking the greatest one, only to find a monster stump, 24 meters in circumference.

That girth is of historic proportions. A tree of that girth may not been observed in Australia since the 1880s.

Old, giant trees are a rare and essential resource in forests. They provide the main habitats for animals, fulfill a number of other hard to replace ecological functions. As such, trees over 85 meters tall or 280 meters cubed are protected as part of Australia's cultural heritage.

This group plans an expedition to the location of this felled giant to commemorate the great tree with artistic wood cuts, prints of its cross-section with a goal to share its beauty and create a national treasure to celebrate Australian forests.

If you could like the group on Facebook that would be great, https://www.facebook.com/groups/Greattrees/ :thumbup1:
