How much damage can be caused by running with no filter with all the crap being sucked in and burned?

 

It will be mostly soft damage over a period of time but will eventually wear the plate off the inlet side of the cylinder and you will eventually get low compression.

 

If the engine ingests something less pallatable than sawdust then it will score the bore and kill the saw much faster.

 

I have run them up after cleaning with no filter but never used one without a filter beyond that.

 

For the record, an MS200T without an air filter gains around 1K rpm on the top end!
