I know its a terrible picture, found this on an oak, Q. robur any ideas what it may be? cheers

Was it growing in a Butress and were there any more around the base? It looks like old sterile Ganoderma brackets IMO.

its for a tree report for college, i'll just go with Ganoderma spp or austrle?

This is selective delignification, and on oak, which is a good compartmentaliser, the tree is 22m in height 89cm dbh 10m inside a woodland quite sheltered with few targets. i cant think of many recommendations really, any other things to take into account?

it has a low live crown ratio and a low H/D ratio - shouldnt be a problem in a sheltered wood?

Anyone know of decent material for tree report writing?

Cheers
