I've just rebuilt my 41 after one of my boys smashed the crank case!

 

Now it runs but as soon as you put the chain break on it stalls!!

 

Maybe clutch springs??

 

Seems weird though its happened after I've put it back together!!

 

Is it possible I've put the clutch back on wrong?

i would guess that for some reason your clutch drum is not spinning freely on the crank. It could be that you have assembled the clutch wrongly, possibly the backplate, or the oil pump drive is not spinning free and is driving the clutch drum.

It could also be the drum needle bearing seized, but you should have noticed this on assembly.

 

Either way, take it apart, check it and reassemble.
