Defender gearbox problems

People know about most things on here, I've got a defender 130 tipper on a 09 plate 35k. On the way home Big Bang lost gears 5 and 6 still had the other 4 just got home other 4 not good. Any one else had problems. Just had vacuum pump, egr valve done.

Hi mate same fly wheel as the new transit and that is a problem it's cost me £1100 to sort mine and now have sold it mite be clutch plate worn out do you tow with it a lot

Towing all the time at it maxium. Had the clutch done about 15k on a recall (spings). It is the gearbox. Been on other forums the gearboxes don't seem to be man enough for towing.

Landrover gearboxes are always going to suffer when loaded right up all the time. They are great all round when doing a bit of heavy towing and a bit of everything else but when you start doing heavy stuff all the time then they just never seem to be man enough to put up with the strain. Shame really cos it lets the rest of the vehicle down.

Also chris, try speaking to Ashcroft transmissions. they are landy specialist and design and build some of there own units to suit different demands. They might be able to help you.
