Hello everyone, has anyone done much grafting?(trees not work). It's something I been planning to experiment with for years now,did a bit at college but that's a while ago. It's time for me to give it a go,I'm thinking palmatum's for one to try.Is anyone doing/done much?Ornamental trees is my interest at the moment but fruit trees could be good to get into too.I'm also looking for any good books,if anyone can help?all the best R.W.:thumbup1:

Hi R.W.

I would highly recommend 'The Grafter's Handbook'. It is quite old but still the only book with as much info on the subject. Sometimes see copies on ebay for not too much money.

Another good old book is 'Tree Fruit Growing' by Raymond Bush'

I graft and bud a lot of fruit trees each year but ornamentals are not really my thing.

Likewise, fruit trees only for me.

I find (in agreement with East Malling) that I have a much higher yield with chip budding than with grafting, usually over 90%. The only difficulty is that it's done in late summer/early autumn (just about to start) when things are generally busier than in winter.
