Anyone have any experience of Maruyama brushcutters/hedgecutters/chainsaws? Just seen them in Vandyck.be catalogue but know nothing about them.

Maruyama has been around state side for a long time. Out of all the major brands on the market I have not heard of any particular problems with this

brand. I would make sure for myself that a servicing dealer could handle any

and all warranty or spair parts when need be. Full disclosure, Vandyck.be sells

The Easy-Lift Harness, I can only render a honest opinion and nothing less.

I will second what ELG says. They are Jap machines, so OK as are most Jap products.

The main strength of any machine is the quality of the supplying dealer, as any kit is no good without backup. A top quality machine sat in the shed waiting for parts is no good to anyone.

maruyana spares are not the most readily available. I see very few of the machines in this area, but there may be more in areas of a strong dealer.

Hayter introduced a range of hand held kit around 8 years ago, this was Maruyana, badged as Hayter. The sales never took off and the range was dropped after only a few years.

Best to stick with a strong brand with a good dealer network. I have sold Tanaka since the early 90's and they have been brilliant, very reliable machines. Spares have never been a problem.

Thank you both. I'll look into them a bit more. I'm going to start steering away from Stihl due to being less than impressed with the 4-mix engine compared with the 2 stroke engines (deeper "more pleasant" sound, my arris!). So looking at Shindaiwa, Tanaka, Maruyama etc. But the problem is..... why no nice extending pole? Which brings Efco and Husqvarna in so I'll look at them as well. Mind you, we already have the Stihl 2 stroke one one - getting on a bit and never missed a beat.

Dead right, give me a 2 stroke any time. They sound better and have loads more power for the size.

Exactly. And fewer moving parts and instant throttle response!

Another issue I have with the 4-mix is the torque when opening the throttle twists the machine too much. And when using it with the throttle locked on for hedge cutting, there's too much of a gyroscopic effect going on in the engine (I think because of the extra weight of the moving parts) which tries to oppose fluid movement. And the noise.....yeah, might be lower frequency, but it thumps through ear defenders and carries far further than the 2 stroke buzz. And the vibes feel stronger regardless of the claims made.
