Best tools for a newbie

I have done a few splices with 16 strand, just used 1.25mm wire as a fid, was going to look into double braid splicing and wanted to know if anyone had some advice on what tools to buy, should I just use the wire or invest in some tubular fids and maybe a splicing wand..........help please

thanks seems like a pretty cheap alternative, you would be the man to ask, if I was going doing splicing on armor-prus what class splice would it be and where would I get the info for the splice from???

Maybe have a go at the new ap poly.. Its a class 1 double braid splice. Samson instructions are good and you can find out all the fid lengths from a chart on the web.. cant remember where i found it now

I've been using piano wire for a while now. Swing past piano repair shop and for a few bucks they will swing you some decent off-cuts that are lying around. Its super strong, much better than mig wire and not as bulky as a coat hanger. I've tried them all, including a Toss wand. treestuff sell an ABR fid online as well.
