Been to look at a scot Pine with this black sutt like discoloration on the South side of the tree, Any idea i don't see many Scot Pine trees so i can not compare it anything else

Or it could be pitch or tar thats been painted on the tree stem when it was young to stop animals from eating the bark, horses crib bite and will ring bark a tree in no time. As the tree and its stem has grown the pattern has emerged.
