What do arborists do with roadside wood?

A lot of trees have been felled by the M4 near Swansea and Pontardulais recently. Some of the wood is chipped on site. Is the bigger stuff available to buy for firewood? How would I get in touch with the contractors?

Cheers

If it's by the motorway you'd have to wait until the contractors remove it, and remove it they will. Even on minor roads we have to be careful where we leave wood as folk stop to cut it up and throw it into the back of the car. This can and does cause RTI's and whoever left the wood there gets the blame.

I'd start by ringing the Highways Agency in that area as they are the ones who oversee all the works. They should be able to give you the detail of the main contractor.

Unless they have a holding area for it I wouldnt think that they would be interested.

And if they do have one they may not want you on it for insurance reasons.

Surely there is easier ways of getting firewood than off the M4?
