Stihl 011 avt

Hi,

 

I've been offered a stihl 011 avt in need of minor repair. Are these saws any good, is there any demand for them, and are parts available? anyone know when they were made? What do you reckon a good one is worth?

 

I find it hard to turn away a cheap saw but don't want to bring home a lemon.

I have a 009 that is a very similar machine, the 011 will never really rip but is a competent little logging tool, pretty solid, reed valve low revving saw.

 

Value - £60 - £120 if working, the higher value if in very good condition.

Thanks for that, perhaps I'll have a punt. Probably be back next week asking how to rebuild the thing!

Think I may even have one in the garage, forgotten what I have and havent! Many of the parts of the 009, 011 and 012 are interchangeable!

009, 010, 011 are pretty much equivalent in capability to MS170s, 180s and the like. I have one that must be 40 years old, it was given to my father by its original owner, he used it for 20 years, now I have it. It still runs fine, I still cut firewood with it.

 

They're not too fiddly to fix, the carb is a bit picky, and the flap that seals up the choke seems to bend - so it is very hard to start from cold (you think the choke is on, but it isn't), and runs fine when hot. The plug hangs out the back, so is vulnerable to having the lead knocked off.

got an 011 avt sat in the shed, seized. my fault i should have stripped it and cleaned it thouroughly before i used it. but when it was running it was a stunner, i loved it. wouldnt want to use it constantly though, antivibe has come a long way since the avt era. the power to size was brilliant though it more than kept up with my saw of similar size.
