Is it better to use a round-section crab with something like a small fixed-cheek pulley rather than the asymetrical Boa for sidelines etc? Does it have to be an oval crab thats used as the lower attachment for a hitchclimber setup? Any opinions would be appreciated :confused1:

yes mate any fixed cheeked pulley should be used with an oval beana if not you risk pulling the cheeks together, either damaging the pulley or worst causing your self an injury...

Cheers, I can see how the 2 tangs of the fixed-cheek pulley could be heavily loaded if pulled into the curves at the top of the crab (bad for the crab too, I guess) . Any thoughts on the hc idea?

Yes, in the HC set-up, you would normally have two tails of the hitch cord coming down the meet the krab either side of the HC. For the tails to be evenly loaded, and for the hitch to work properly, an oval krab presents the same shape either side of the HC, therefore keeping all loads equally balanced on either side of the HC.
