power lines

Just got a call from a customer who wants some trees crown lifting along their drive. But there are power lines down 1 side of the drive! I haven't seen the job yet. They aren't pylons they are the electric supply to the house. Before any work can be carried out does the electric have to be turned off? What's the minimum safe distance from the line? Do you have to have your hv tickets to dothe work even if the power is off?

Think its a 9m proximity zone on LV over there, and if you get the power off I doubt you'll need a ticket. Go have a look at the job before you get too concerned about shutdowns etc. You'd be surprised how many customers can't tell a phone line from a power line, and in my experience customers tend to exaggerate an awful lot over the phone. Until you've seen it with your own eyes there's no point in worrying too much.

Bring a camera when you go and post up some pics if there's anything that concerns you, and there's plenty on here who can advise on what you need to do.

Go and have a look. If they are power lines contact the power boys (EDF/UK power network or whatever they're currently called) and ask them to visit and advise. No need for hv tickets if the power is off. Above all don't risk anything!!!
