I am currently trying to get on a approved contractor database for our regional council. We have only been operating for a couple of years so this has been overlooked. I and my staff are all fully trained and experienced. Does anyone have any idea where i can locate one specific to arb?

You can download a H&S policy template from the Health and Safety Excecutive website and I think there are risk assessment forms on the Arb Associations website.

Hi 'Ecotreecare',

 

Whilst training & experience are very important, and integral to any H&S Plan to acheive competence, there are many other aspects to consider including the raft of different regulations and how we acheive, and demonstrate, compliance. IMHO as an industry, generally speaking, we are pretty good at getting H&S right at the 'sharp end' (forgive the pun) but often have a complete lack of understanding and application when it comes to H&S foundations.

 

Hopefully a 'tailor made' opportunity here is 'ARB Approved Contractor' (ArbAC) status, which is absolutely industry specific, and these days also meets the requirements for the CHAS and SAFEcontractor schemes.

 

For a small business this can be achieved for less than £500 per year.

 

If you are interested it might be worthwhile asking the regional council in question if they would accept 'ArbAC' status, supported by CHAS / SAFEcontractor, informing them that the accreditation is 'recognised' by HSE, as an equivalent.

Yeah, saw that and was somewhat intrigued, still so long as they pay the flights, ha!

 

Nearly went out to Oz last year as the Queensland AA were looking inot setting up a contractor approval scheme but all seems to have gone quiet...boo hoo!

You'd better chase them up on that!

 

I think you should take along a member of staff from an AAAC to sing the praises of such a scheme.....pick me, pick me!
