I collect metal for recycling aswell, people drop it off at our yard, pots and pans and small stuff like that that, when we have a dumpy bag full we weigh it in. The proceeds then go to a charity, Chernobyl Children’s Project UK – a national organisation that supports families in Belarus, which was also contaminated by the disaster.

The local scouts have a metal collection but the last two little available as all given to unlicenced people in the usual Ford transits which is a shame. I am told it is also illegal for the public to give waste to non licenced people to take.

that there is a certain type of person that steals metal items and are criminals

You are in fact right, there is a certain type of person that steal, that's a criminal type, thieving lowmlife scum who profit from others hard work. thieves wear a ll sorts of clothes, drive all sorts of cars, operate in all types of business and come from every level of society. There is no definitive "look" to a thief, make no mistake.

I once knew a very respectable guy, the sort of bloke you would never suspect of being a thief in a hundred years, until we saw him in the local rag, seems he'd been part of a sophisticated gang that broke into offices and stole hi-tec computer equipment. We were gob-smacked!
