Advice drying Douglas Fir

I would say mill it at just over 2inch, with a bit a t 2.5 inch for sills.

 

I used to use Doug fir for external joinery but it is now silly money. It does come completley clear of knots and I believe originates from the USA.

I now use my own larch but it is difficult to find any that is clear enough for joinery use.

I was googling around for it and found a major online timber retailer punting it for £50 a cubic foot plus vat!

 

I would expect finest quarter sawn brown oak or burr elm for that kind of money!

I have a friend who has just made a front door and frame out of doug fir. He did buy in the timber prepared but the timber alone cost him £1200. :ohmy: I didn't like to ask him how much he charged out the door out for.
