Thanks, am not the best at telling the difference between these two so any help will be great.

Any other ID traits?

Steve, a couple of weeks back during an ATF visit, Ted Green indicated that he believed G. applanatum to be hosted on dead disfunction wood, and also mentioned the cracking by finger tip on the crust, as being one way to tell the difference.

 

The lumps underneath are sometimes associated with wasp larvae. These are not found on G. adspersum.

Here's a couple of shots of the G. applanatum that was being discussed.

As you can see it's on dead wood.

 

David Lonsdale was also in the group and did not disagree with Ted.

 

Which if you have spent time around them, you would note that disagreement is always close to the surface around their relationship.
